I first came to Moye in 1943 attending Camp CaYoCa each year and staying over
through the summer until school began for me at St. Anne's in Houston. I
began school at Moye in the 4th or 5th grade, and graduated in 1951 as captain
of the band. After Moye I went tot Casia Hall High school in Tulsa
OK. There were several Moye boys attending there at the time. I
returned to Houston in 1952 and attended St. Thomas HS, graduating in
1955. Was married July 29, 1955 to former OLL student Ann R. Moores.
We separated in 1959 and I was drafted in to the U S Army Oct. 10, 1960.
Basic training and AIT at Ft. Hood, TX then was sent to Fairbanks, Alaska - Ft.
Wainwright. Rotated out in Aug. 1962 through Ft. Lewis Washington.
I came home to Houston and was divorced in 1963. I worked in various jobs related to selling oilfield equipment until 1971, then went into the life insurance business in Houston. Moved to Goliad i 1974, then to Victoria in 1981. I married Carol Ann in 1981 and continued in the insurance business specializing in Tax Sheltered annuities. Established THE MURPHY AGENCY in 1985, earned CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation in 1993 and now have sold the business and retired in Feb 2004.
Both my wife and I are active volunteers in the Restorative Justice Ministry, specifically in the prisons, county jails, and Parole division of the TDCJ (Texas department of Criminal Justice) where we teach Anger Management classes to inmates and parolees. We are members of Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Mission Valley (north of Victoria) where I have been the Sunday Schools Superintendent for the pas 10 years and Carol Ann is the AWANA director and children's Sunday School Teacher.
