Heritage Day 2010, Sunday, Oct. 10
We
look forward to seeing you
again this year!
The twelfth annual Heritage Day
Event will be held on Sunday Oct. 10, 2010.
Moye Retreat Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Divine Providence and this event is
an annual fundraising event to help offset the costs of running the facility and
keeping this vital ministry available to as many people as possible.
It is a day of celebration and a time to reconnect with the Sisters, friends and
former classmates. Approximately 1,000 guests visit the Center
each year to enjoy good food, good music and good company!
Below is more information about the
event.
Bar-be-que plates for sale, $6.00 each.
Enjoy some of the best BBQ chicken, Alsatian sausage and ranchero beans, courtesy of the wonderful cooks from the St. Louis Parish Men's
Society! The plates are rounded out with homemade coleslaw and potato salad,
made by the staff at Moye Retreat Center. With some pickles, a couple slices of bread and a big glass of tea,
even the hardiest of appetites are satisfied. The Men's Society has
donated their time and exceptional talents to Moye Retreat Center for about the
last ten years. They start the fires early and wait for the coals to be just right so that we
can enjoy the best food since, well,
St Louis Day!!

Hand made arts and crafts, made by
the Sisters of Divine Providence are in abundance this day. Many hand
quilted, crocheted and sewn items are available at great prices. Come do
your Christmas shopping early and get some one of a kind
gifts and decorations.

Homemade desserts made by the Sisters
and their many friends are also on sale. Get homemade pies,
cakes, cookies, kolaches and so much more.
Wear something with an elastic waist band!
There are children's events, which
include a petting zoo and pony rides, face painting, bouncer, balloons, bean bag
toss and much more. Last year we added a child's meal deal of Hot dog, chips, drink
and two cookies for nine tickets ($3.00).

Each year at least one musical group donates their musical talents for the day.
Everyone enjoys great music and entertainment and last year we had two
great groups to serenade us:
Mariachi
Escamilla and the Texas Twosome Trio!
Both bands came to us courtesy of TAMA Musicians' Association, Samuel J. Kinsey,
Director.
There is a silent auction with
several antiques, hand made crafts, gift certificates, tickets to
events and various other items. Some samples of past treasures are
shown below.

There were four items in the raffle last year.
Hand embroidered, Yellow Rose quilt -full size.
Hand quilted, Trip Around the World pattern - full size.
Wool Afghan
Crocheted Afghan
Chances are $1.00
each, or 6 for $5.00. (You need not be present to win.)

Also, all our historic buildings are open to the public for touring.
Moye Retreat Center is owned and subsidized by the Sisters of Divine Providence
who are committed to making Moye an affordable place for groups to use, even
though this pledge is a financial challenge for them. The Sisters of Divine
Providence are now engaged in a fundraising effort for Moye, "Sharing Sacred
Spaces Capital Campaign," to address five physical areas that need immediate
attention.
The
cost for these Capital Improvements is $300,000. We are asking for your help to
raise this amount to preserve and improve Moye Retreat Center.
